International Mortgages

These days it is relatively straightforward to buy property abroad. You can go to a mortgage lender in the country where your new property is situated, however there are mortgage lenders in this country willing to finance a foreign property.

If you do choose to buy a property abroad using a British lender, it is a good idea to get some local help to find out about taxes and fees. Talking to expats in the area may throw up some things that you did not know. They should also be able to advise you about local solicitors.

It is a good idea to take on a good local lawyer who speaks fluent English. The lawyer will be able to tell you about any local regulations, laws and procedures necessary to be able to buy your chosen property.

The costs involved in buying abroad can be higher than in the UK. Find out as much as you can about local taxes involved for both buying and selling property.
